Holy Subversion

February 18, 2010

The Apostle John concluded his first epistle warning his readers to “keep themselves from idols.” Idolatry seems to be a pervasive malady radically present in all human beings – even Christians. To rightly understand idolatry and the way to deal with it requires a biblical strategy grounded on a careful insight into human nature and biblical theology.

Trevin Wax, Associate Pastor for Missions and Education at the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, TN has written a new book titled, Holy Subversion: Allegiance to Christ in an Age of Rivals and seeks to identify areas of human understanding which are thoroughly corrupted by what Scripture calls sin and its devastating effects on modern life.

Topics:
Subversion – Holy?; What is idolatry?
Problems with The Four Spiritual Laws
Testimony-based evangelism – effective or lacking Biblical substance?
Are Christians to change the world?; Tim Challies and Tullian Tchividjian – Transformational Christianity?
The Ephesians Road to Salvation
The Doctrine of Election
s Sex Separated from Procreation?
Evangelicalism – The Next Five Years.

The End of Christianity

January 13, 2010

Guest: Dr. William Dembski

If God is good, why is there evil in the world? This one question has done more to undo belief in God among countless thousands of people  – especially those who have seen the horrors this life can truly bring. Those who have lived through earthquakes; experienced the Asian tsunamis, survived Auschwitz and the Killing Fields; even to the recent murders at Fort Hood; Those who have buried a child; felt the sting of injustice – those who have, like all humans, encountered real evil in the world – wonder if God is there – if God is good – and if Christianity is true.

To address such questions head-on is a mathematician, a theologian, and a scientist – Dr. William Dembski. Internationally known as a paradigmatic figure in the world of science – particularly as he has advanced the theory of intelligent design regarding the creation of the world in contrast to Darwinian evolution – Dr. Dembski has authored a new book – The End of Christianity: Finding a Good God in an Evil World.

Guest for this podcast:

Dr. William Dembski, is the Research Professor of Philosophy at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Senior Fellow with the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture in Seattle, WA.

The Heart of Evangelism

November 24, 2009

Guest:  Dr. Alvin Reid

After the ascension of Jesus Christ from the grave, Holy Scripture states that he gathered the disciples on a mountain and said these words – “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and makes disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Termed the Great Commission by the church, various means and methods have been used since that time centuries ago when Jesus departed the earth. In the modern day, evangelism is debated as to its most effective means for taking the gospel to the nations. The gospel itself seems clouded and is often expanded to include ideas and statements which, when examined Biblically, seem strange and even out of place from the words preached and taught by Jesus and the Apostles.

Guest for this podcast:

Dr. Alvin Reid, Professor of Evangelism and Student Ministry occupying the Bailey Smith Chair of Evangelism at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC has written a new book, The Evangelism Handbook: Biblical, Spiritual, Intentional, Missional.
